All Flesh Is As Grass

If you were told that you only had one week left to live how would you spend your remaining time on earth? Death is very sudden for many people. For others death is a process. What meaning and value is there to life? Many people say that they want to spend their lives enjoying what is around them and living life to the fullest. They believe that this will be the best way to redeem the time and bring value to it. Once you die you then continue on into the next world, a spiritual world. Lets find out what the Bible has to say about this.

Life is Short

For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

1 Peter 1:24

Death can come at any age and at any time. Heart disease is the current leading cause of death in the United States but many die of other causes earlier in life.

When I was a teenager I would periodically hear about teens dying from my school or that I have met before. It is a tragic thing when someone so young dies.

So teach us to number our days,

That we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

We are not promised tomorrow. The young die in their sleep, they die is accidents or even from heart disease. According to “www.verywellhealth.com”, 14.8% of deaths among those aged 20-24 are from homicide. 4.1% are from cancer. St. Jude is a Cancer hospital for children. Not one of us is promised or guaranteed another day. Each moment we have is a blessing from God. It was granted to us from God for a reason. It is not given to us to do what we think is right or to do our own thing. God gives us time so that we can serve him according to scripture. Not according to what we think scripture says or what some preacher or pastor says but what the Bible says. You will need to read and study the Bible diligently to know what it says for yourself.

Vanity of Vanities

If you spend your entire life laboring and gaining wealth one day you will die and your wealth will be passed on to your children. One day they will die and they will pass on what they have accumulated and worked for. Eventually everything that remains that you have labored for will belong to those who are not your descendants or they will belong to complete and total strangers even though you are related.

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Mark 8:36

Eventually what remains if well preserved could become an antique and be part of someone’s collection. Your children however will spend all of eternity either in heaven or in hell. Everything you passed down to them will not help them once they die and enter into eternity.  The Bible tells us that Jesus is the only way to the father and that no sin will enter in.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:6

And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Revelation 21:27

If you raised your children up in a sinful home void of God’s word and his spirit, then they will have missed out on the most important thing anyone could have ever given them.

Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6

whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

James 4:14

We are given a short period of time compared to all of eternity. If you ask some why they don’t consider death they will tell you that they do. They have skulls painted everywhere to remind them and some worship the dead. Many cults obsess over the idea. Some witches consult the dead. You can find movies where they consult the dead so you can contact a loved one that has passed. None of this is biblical however. Consulting the dead through a medium or a witch is a sin. It’s not that they do not consider mortality because many do. It’s that they do not consider it from the point of reality. In other words from God’s point of view.

Egyptian Pharaohs were entombed with great riches. They believed they could take them into the afterlife. They are material earthly things. They cannot go into the afterlife. Nothing will go with you when you die.

16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased;

17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: His glory shall not descend after him.

Psalm 49:16-17

The richest people on earth are not those with worldly goods and gold. They will pass away and are temporary. Rather the richest people on earth are those that are raised to know God’s word and his spirit and with that can choose salvation which will last eternity.

All is Vanity, All is without substance, All is meaningless unless it is based on the truth which is God’s word.

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Matthew 24:35

Hypothetically let’s pretend there is no God for a moment. One-day human life will die off. Eventually our own planet will die and with it everything with life on it. Eventually our sun will die. When the sun dies it will take our planet and others in our galaxy with it. Everything man has ever created, thought or achieved will be destroyed by the sun as if it had never happened. Even if we leave earth and do everything we can to survive as a species we are just fighting the inevitable.

Eventually our species will all perish. In an evolutionary world not even a thought or a memory in the afterlife will exist. It will be as if it had never happened. All of the wealth, joy and success man has accomplished will be gone forever as if it had never happened in the first place. Whether we did everything we could to survive or blew up the entire planet and ended it all now would make no difference.

It could even be argued the most compassionate thing is to just end it now, that way future generations would not be born to experience any pain and suffering in life. Since we are headed towards total nothingness why even allow our species to continue to come forth from nothingness is the first place? All is vain, pointless and meaningless.

Thankfully God does exist and is real. After our bodies die we continue to live. There is a beginning for us but we never truly die. Our decisions have consequences.

O that they were wise, that they understood this,

That they would consider their latter end!

Deuteronomy 32:29

God is speaking about Israel here. He wants them to consider their choices and decisions because they are going to bring great heartache to Israel. This statement however is true for us all. God is saying this about all of us. God wants each and everyone of us to be wise and consider our own mortality, not just the affects of our life choices here on earth.

What Happens After we Die?

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Hebrews 9:27

After you die you will either go to heaven and be with the Lord or you will go to Hell and be in eternal torment forever. Building a life void of God, his laws and his word is allowing sin to grow in your life and the relationships you create including that with your family.

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Matthew 7:13-14

The vast majority will go to hell. Because of the fall our flesh naturally desires to sin. It is constantly pulling on us to commit sin. The Bible tells us that through prayer and the word we must crucify the sinful desires of the flesh. Being a Christian is like a fish that is swimming up stream. You must swim against the current. The current is the default state of man. You have a carnal flesh and a carnal mind. The Bible tells us we must renew our mind and crucify our flesh. The vast majority will not do this and are damned. This can only be done after one repents and becomes born again. They must become a new creature in Christ Jesus then daily crucify the flesh through prayer and the word. That is how one starts the path towards walking in the spirit.

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 20:11-15

Where you choose to spend eternity is the most important decision you will make in your entire life. Your choice will impact you for all of eternity. If you choose to sin and reject Christ you will spend eternity in Hell. If you turn to Christ, repent of your sins and walk in his spirit according to his word you will get to spend eternity in heaven. All other choices, thoughts, ideas are vain and meaningless compared to this decision. No other choice you make in this life will have a greater impact.

God’s word is Eternal.

After the last breathe of the last person of this generation is taken, the word of God will remain. One thousand years from now everyone alive today will be apart of ancient history. Everything we thought, believed and achieved will only exist in history lessons and artifacts. Our values and ideas of life will have passed away. Yet the word of God will still be here unchanged.

But the word of the Lord endureth for ever.

And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

1 Peter 1:25

For ever, O LORD, Thy word

Is settled in heaven.

Psalm 119:89

Man is like to vanity: His days are as a shadow that passeth away.

Psalm 144:4

The Bible tells us that the foundations of the world were framed by the word of God. God is the creator and the life bringer. This universe exists because of the word of God and runs on the word of God. The DNA in your cells was written by God. He was the very first coder. He was coding before we even knew what coding was. God was there in the Beginning. God will also be there when he creates a new heaven and a new earth.

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Revelation 21:1

Treasure In Heaven

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Matthew 6:19-21

No earthy riches can be taken into heaven with us. The Bible however speaks of other treasures that we can store up in heaven.

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out

1 Timothy 6:7

Jesus tells us that in heaven there are mansions. – John 14:2-3

You will receive a crown of Life – James 1:12

There are many other versus about treasure in heaven. Many do not define what exactly that treasure is. We do know that the requirements are different so you can assume that the reward would increase upon fulfilling more of the requirements. There will be many great surprises awaiting for us in heaven however.

Winning Souls

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life;

And he that winneth souls is wise.

Proverbs 11:30

Why are soul winners wise? The most valuable commodity on the planet is mankind. The angels do not rejoice when someone becomes rich. They do however rejoice when someone accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. A person is eternal. They will live forever. For all of eternity you will be able to walk by the mansions in heaven and have people come out and shake your hand and embrace you and thank you for having the courage to tell them about Jesus Christ.

If you had not done that they would be in Hell. Look at where they are at now? That is wisdom. That is loving and compassionate. You have an eternal friend, not simply a brother or sister in the Lord that you can connect with on a level that is very unique and special.
