Everyone has an opinion about Jesus Christ. Some think he was a good man. Some think he was a prophet. Some think he never even existed. The world has become so evil that today some will brazenly say he was a bad person. Then there are those that say he is the Son of The Living God. Jesus is worshipped the world around all day, every day. No one has made a bigger impact on our world than Jesus Christ. It is vital and important that we make sure we know who he is.

“But what about you? ”he asked. “Who do you say I am?

Matthew 16:15 NIV

What did Jesus’s disciples say about him?

Peter

13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Cæsarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 16:13-17

Peter confessed that Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of the Living God. Jesus then acknowledged this and told Peter that he knew this because God the father showed Peter this truth.

28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

John 20:28-29 (Thomas)

What does the Bible say about him?

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Matthew 1:23

Jesus is known as God is with us. This is not a figurative statement but a literal one. It refers to Jesus being God in the flesh. How do we know that is what this means? When know when we compare this scripture to the rest of the Bible.

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

Mark 1:1

4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:

5 and as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,

7 saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

Luke 24:4-7

30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

31 but these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

John 20:30-31

What does Satan say about who Jesus is?

And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

Luke 4:3

And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

Luke 4:9

Satan knew that Jesus was the Son of God. Satan did not tempt anyone else this way by asking them if they were the Son of God. This specifically meant that Jesus was a divine part of the Godhead and Satan knew it.

The Unclean Spirits

33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

34 saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.

Luke 4:33-34

28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.

29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

Matthew 8:28-29

11 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

12 And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.

Mark 3:11-12

And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

Luke 4:41

What does God the Father say about Jesus?

and lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Matthew 3:17

God the father vocally confirmed to the world that Jesus Christ was indeed his son.

5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

Matthew 17:5-6

God the father tells us that Jesus is his Son and that we should listen to him.

What the Angels say about Jesus

He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Matthew 28:6

The Angels called Jesus, Lord.

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Luke 1:35

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2:10-11

What Others Said about Jesus

Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

Matthew 27:54

Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

John 1:49

41 And many more believed because of his own word;

42 and said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

John 4:41-42

She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

John 11:27 (Martha)

The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

John 19:7

What did Jesus say about himself?

Jesus tells us that he is God.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Matthew 28:19

In this scripture Jesus tells us plainly that he is part of the Trinity which is also known as the Godhead.

When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

John 4:11

Jesus tells us in John that he is the Son of God and through this healing Jesus should be glorified.

69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

Luke 22:69-70

Jesus never denies being the Son of God, instead he puts the burden back on those trying to harm him. They had blasphemy laws. In spite of these laws however Jesus refers to himself in terms that the Sadducees and Pharisees should be able to recognize from the Old Testament scriptures. In Contrast Paul and Barnabas made a huge deal when they were called gods in the book of Acts. If Jesus were merely a great prophet, he should have acted similarly and completely distanced himself from these accusations.

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

15 and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

Acts 14:11-15

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Matthew 28:19-20

Jesus introduces us to the Godhead or trilogy. “the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:“. He tells us that he is indeed the Son of God,

25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

26 ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Luke 24:25-27

Jesus is eternal and has always existed.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 1:1-3 & 14

John is telling us that the Word of God is Jesus Christ himself. The word has always existed. The Word existed in another form, then became flesh and was called Jesus. Jesus existed prior to being conceived. Also, according to this scripture he created his own earthly body. The scripture says all things were made by him. That includes Mary his earthly mother and his own brothers and sisters as well as every human being that has ever existed and the entire universe. Don’t forget about the angels etc.

32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

John 6:32-35

Jesus tells us that he came down from heaven. We know that Mary gave birth to Jesus. Therefore Jesus would have existed without this human body and would have been known by another name.

For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

John 6:38

And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

John 3:13

33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

John 6:33-35 & 38

What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

John 6:62

And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

John 8:23

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

John 8:42

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

John 8:56-58

Jesus is referring to an existence he had prior to being inside of his human body. Abraham was born around 1946 BC. Jesus was saying that before 1946 BC he existed and was known by another name. “I am” is a reference to the name God referred to himself when Moses asked him what he should call him. Jesus is plainly calling himself God.

13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

Exodus 3:13-14

I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

John 16:28

And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

John 17:5

The worship of Jesus

2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

Matthew 8:2-4

The leper worshipped Jesus and Jesus never pushed him away or told him to stop.

18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.

Matthew 9:18-19

25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.

27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.

28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Matthew 15:25-28

Jesus did not even forbid this Canaanite woman from worshipping him. This woman was unclean as a result of not being apart of the covenant. He simply just didn’t acknowledge it. Not because he did not think he should have been worshipped but because she was a Canaanite.

1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2 saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Matthew 2:1-2 & 11

After his birth while Jesus was a young child he was worshipped by the wise men. There is no condemnation for this worship anywhere in scripture.

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Matthew 13:33

After Jesus was seen walking on the water and the wind ceasing they worshipped Jesus calling him the Son of God. Not once did Jesus tell them to stop worshipping him nor did he tell them he was not God’s Son.

20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.

21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.

Matthew 20:20-21

9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

10 Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.

Matthew 28:9-10

16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Matthew 28:16-18

35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?

37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.

38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

John 9:35-38

Jesus is the only begotten

17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

John 1:17-18

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:16-18

Salvation is through Jesus Alone

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15 that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

John 17:1-2

Jesus is Our Judge

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

John 5:22

26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

27 and hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

29 and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation

30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

John 5:26-31

Jesus also said about himself

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
